More About Lisianthis & Caring For Cut Lisianthus

The Lisianthus flower symbolises a deep, heartfelt desire, appreciation or gratitude. Because of this, these flowers are frequently given as gifts for a number of occasions. Lisianthus flowers are often given as a thank you present, they are given to a friend to show gratitude or admiration and can also be given to someone to whom you are romantically attached.

Lisianthus is popular as a cut flower because not only does it have an exceptional, rose-like beauty, it also has an incredible vase life. To preserve your lisianthus, when they are delivered, use a clean vase or container and fill it with lukewarm tap water. Remove any water vials which may have been shipped with your lisianthus. These provide only a temporary water source during delivery.

Remove any leaves that are below the waterline of the container. Leaves left under water will cause bacteria to develop and will significantly shorten the life of your lisianthus.

Fill a sink or wide container with several inches of warm water. While holding each stem under water, cut about 2 - 3cm (one inch) at an angle off the end with a sharp knife or shears and immediately place the lisianthus, into your water filled container. Don’t allow the stems to dry.

Add the flower food which came with your bouquet to the vase that contains your sunflowers with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial growth, aids in keeping vase water clear, and feeds your flowers and foliages insuring a longer vase life.

Gently remove any outermost petals which may have been bruised during delivery. Removing a few petals will not damage a blossom and will often help the flower bloom. Position and display your lisianthus, in a cool spot, out of direct sunlight and any extreme temperature areas.

Check your lisianthus flowers daily and add more preservative and fresh water as needed. With a little patience and attention to temperature and water control, you can achieve great results. Lisianthus is a very long lasting flower, if their stems are recut regularly and can last up to 14 days.
