A dozen roses, or even more, are perfectly romantic...
Roses are one of the most recognised flowers in the world and have a long and colourful history. They have been symbols of love, beauty, war, and politics. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, is said to have created the rose which arose from her tears and the blood of her lover Adonis.
The rose is, according to fossil evidence, 35 million years old. A rose is a perennial flower shrub or vine of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae that contains more than 100 species of roses and comes in a variety of colours.
With roses, you can choose to make a strong statement without saying anything at all. The colours of roses are said to also have significance so keep this list in mind when choosing your roses.

More About Roses & Cut Rose Care...
Red roses are for lovers and strong gesture of love. Red roses are also used to declare your love and passion to a new love interest. Pink roses are for people you admire and to express thanks and gratitude. Mixed with red, this can be taken as a sign of romance.
White roses symbolise innocence, purity, secrecy, marriage, loyalty, reverence and humility and yellow roses are for people that are platonic friends but share a deep connection. Give this colour to your friends or someone of the opposite sex that you only want to be friends with.
Blue roses are a very unusual colour and symbolise mystery, the impossible and the unattainable. Purple roses represent love at first sight and you should give these roses to someone to show your love.
To preserve your roses when they are delivered, use a clean vase or container and fill it with lukewarm tap water. Remove any water vials which may have been shipped with your roses. These provide only a temporary water source during delivery. However, do not remove floral wires which may have been attached to individual rose stems. These provide helpful support for some roses.
Remove any foliage from the roses that will be below the waterline of the container, being careful not to scrape or cut through the green bark of the stems. Air may enter stems at such injuries, blocking water uptake. Leaves left under water will cause bacteria to develop and will significantly shorten the life of your roses.
Fill a sink or wide container with several inches of warm water. While holding each stem under water, cut about 2 - 3cm diagonally off the end with a sharp knife or shears and immediately place the roses into your water filled container. This prevents any air lock forming at the bottom of the stems, which could prevent the flower from drawing up the water.
Add the flower food which came with your bouquet to the vase that contains your sunflowers with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial growth, aids in keeping vase water clear, and feeds your flowers and foliages insuring a longer vase life.
Gently remove any outermost petals which may have been bruised during shipping. Removing a few petals will not damage a blossom and will often help it open more fully.
Position and display your roses in a cool spot, out of direct sunlight and any extreme temperature areas. Avoid keeping your roses near fresh fruit. Ripening fruit gives off ethylene gas which will significantly reduce the life of your roses.
Check your roses daily and add more preservative and fresh water as needed. The water should be changed every 3 to 4 days and the roses recut for optimum vase life. Roses can last 7-12 days with appropriate care.
